Old Windows
Repair or Replace?
Our tips on when to repair or replace aging, failing glass, found below.
Should I Repair or Replace?
Don't fall for the costly mistake of patching up a structural failure. Here is how to diagnose your next steps.
When to Simply Repair
- ✓ Minor Cosmetic Damage: The window only has minor paint peeling or cosmetic frame scuffs.
- ✓ Loose Hardware: The locks, cranks, or hinges are slightly loose or just need simple lubrication.
- ✓ Cracked Exterior Caulking: The frame seal is intact, but old caulking is peeling (this can easily be scraped and reapplied).
When You Must Replace
- ✗ Rotting or Warped Frames: The physical frame is decaying, soft, sagging, or structurally compromised.
- ✗ Blown Glass Seals: Moisture, condensation, or foggy haze is permanently trapped between the panes.
- ✗ Single-Pane Glass: The window is completely outdated. No amount of repair or film will make it energy-efficient.
- ✗ Structural Gaps & Drafts: Cold air is blowing directly through the structural gaps inside the window unit frame.

Our Windows
Awning
Awning windows are a great option when you want to air out a humid kitchen or bathroom. These windows are designed for good ventilation while maintaining privacy and protecting your home from undesired moisture. Double-Hung
With two stacked, movable sashes, a double-hung window slides down from the top and up from the bottom. This type of window offers versatility as both the sashes can be opened simultaneously. Furthermore, the sashes can be tilted in or out as per your needs.
Single-Hung
Also known as vertical sliders, single-hung windows have a fixed top and bottom section that can easily slide up and down, allowing better airflow. They are also considered as a slightly more energy-efficient option than double-hung windows.
Bow
With a combination of four or more bay window units, you can form a graceful curve. These bow windows allow more natural light and help make a room look more spacious.
Fixed Picture
Imitating the frames of casement and awning windows, fixed picture windows give balance to a multi-frame window picture. Or, a small picture includes a frame that is minimized while maximizing the amount of light entering as well as the glass size.
Picture
During the cold Ontario winter nights, picture windows help in allowing natural light and increasing energy efficiency. These windows come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Horizontal-Slider
Due to their inward-folding section, horizontal slider windows allow easier maintenance and optimum visibility of the outdoors. They come in vinyl, allow proper airflow, and are durable.
Casement
Casement windows are extremely popular among homeowners because of their easy functionality in opening and closing. These windows offer optimal airflow and natural light. They come in various designs, colours, and sizes.
Bay
Bay windows are constructed using different types of windows and are considered a versatile option. Because these windows extend beyond walls and face multiple directions, they can easily let in more light and air while increasing your home’s curb appeal.
It’s normal for owners of century homes or first-time homeowners to review the quality of their windows and find problems.
Here are some of the top issues to look for when trying to decide if your windows are good enough, or whether they’re losing you money in lost heat retention or other health concerns.
Persistent Drafts & Temperature Swings - If standing near your window feels like standing outside, your seals or frames might have failed.
Condensation (Between Panes) - Seeing moisture or fog trapped between double or triple glass? Your insulating argon gas may have escaped, leaving you with almost zero thermal protection.
Spiking Heating & Cooling Bills - If your furnace or AC is running constantly to combat windows that don’t keep the heat in or out, it’s almost like throwing money out the window. Even a basic replacement is a great way to lower energy bills.
Window Frames are Decaying/Soft/Water-Damaged - Gently press a screwdriver into your wood frames. If it feels soft or spongy, moisture has rotted the structural frame. Waiting too long to repair may cause expensive wall damage.
Window is Difficult to Open, Close, or Lock - Over time, frames warp, sashes sag, and balances rust. If operating a window is a struggle every time, it poses a fire-safety hazard.
Unwanted Outdoor Noise Intrusion - If you can hear every passing car, lawnmower, or neighbour’s conversation as if you were outside, your windows may have lost their sound-dampening capabilities.
Outdated Aesthetics & Faded Home Decor - Old-school, tacky, single-pane or faded vinyl windows can drag down your home's value. New expertly-installed windows go a long way to restoring curb appeal and increasing value.
